Halloween is celebrated with viewings of alumnus William Peter Blatty’s film The Exorcist. In April, the University celebrates Georgetown Day in which they reward the best professor of the year with the Dorothy Brown Award according to the votes of the student. Students host many events on campus to celebrate Georgetown traditions, culture, alumni, sports and politics.
The art magazine of the university is called the Georgetown Independent. The Georgetown Voice is a newsmagazine which was founded in 1969 to focus on citywide and national issues. The oldest newspaper of the university is called The Hoya which has been in print since 1920. Georgetown University has several students run academic journals and newspapers.
